Let’s kick off Earth Month by creating iron-on patches to keep clothing and accessories in wearable shape while adding personality. Join founders of The Snips, Shannon Twohy and Natalie Novacek, at Sociable Cider Werks for an evening of designing your very own patches to take home and mend your wearables! Place your patch over a small hole or stain, or use it to jazz up the pieces in your closet that tend to go unpicked. Choose from provided designs (illustrated by ), or create your own custom design using wash-safe fabric markers and simple embroidery techniques.Ages 21+ , well-behaved dogs are welcome in Sociable’s taproom. Pre-registration is recommended, but drop-ins are welcomed to join!

About The Snips Fiber Arts Collective:

The Snips Fiber Arts Collective, co-founded by Natalie Novacek and Shannon Twohy, is a group of makers cultivating their experiences at the intersection of femininity, handicrafts, and pop culture.

Natalie Novacek (she/her) has been sewing and stitching since she was 5 years old. Between now and then, she has picked up cross stitch, embroidery, knitting, and quilting. You can see Natalie slinging fiber and fabric as an employee of Knit & Bolt, where she also teaches quilting classes for quilters at all experience levels. And if Natalie wasn’t busy enough, she just started in the M.A. in Material Culture and Textile Studies program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. 

Shannon Twohy works as a director, playwright, artistic instructor, and actor in the Twin Cities where she covers new ground in adaptations of existing theater work while creating and cultivating contemporary, ensemble-based collaborative work. Her stage work includes special focus on disability and redefining who partakes in the artistic process. Shannon found a passion for embroidery arts after spending hours at hospital waiting rooms while her father underwent treatment for cancer. Shannon sees this tangible medium as an extension to explore the grieving process, pop culture, her past and future all through the lens of what is widely seen as a “woman’s craft.”  Shannon is self-taught in the artistry of embroidery and often leans on influences of woodblock prints, pop culture, religious artifacts, and human anatomy as she attempts to “paint” or “carve” with thread. Shannon co-founded the fiber arts collective, The Snips.  Shannon’s first solo exhibition, Saints of the Abattoir (2021), was met with critical acclaim where her work was described as, “Heironymus Bosch but with a feminist twist.”  Beyond embroidery, Shannon also practices with ceramics, painting, and mixed media.  Shannon received a B.A in Theatre Arts and Film from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI.
